Soswe out to promote book on Miri’s history, development
MIRI: The Society of English Writers Northern Zone Sarawak (Soswe) will hold a promotional for its book entitled ‘Miri: Then and Now’ at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in Kuching this Saturday (March 30), with the ceremony to commence at 10am.
Everybody is welcome to attend the event, as admission is free.
According to Soswe secretary Jennie Soh, this book serves to promote Miri through writing, and also to share views regarding the history and latest developments of the city.
“It would be an interesting experience for Kuchingite, as well as those who like to learn more about Miri – they can come and join us at the event,” she said in a statement.
Apart from the promotional session, Soh said there would also be a sharing session by David Sanderson, the second son of the late Sgt Charles Frederick Sanderson D.C.M. of the ‘Z’ Special unit from Newcastle, Australia.
“David will be sharing some of the stories about his father’s life during the Japanese occupation in 1945.”
Soswe comprises a group of Sarawakians who share a common interest in writing.
The first pro tem committee was formed on Nov24, 1997, led by Abby Lau.
Its objectives include cultivating general interest in the art of writing across any genre, encouraging more local work through the organisation of activities like writing contests, workshops, seminars and talks, promoting research activities with special emphasis on social cultural aspects of Sarawak, and fostering closer relationship among writers in Sarawak.
