AAM de-registered for failing to adhere to Sports Act — Zaiton
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sports Commissioner de-registered the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) on Nov 30, 2018 due to its failure to adhere to the Sports Development Act 1997.
Sports Commissioner Datuk Zaiton Othman said AAM failed to give any cooperation despite being sent several reminders and show-cause letters.
“AAM’s failure to submit documents like minutes from its annual general meetings, list of committee members, audited annual financial statements, annual activity reports and membership lists since 2016 led to its de-registration.
“Following that, the Sports Commissioner ruled that AAM is no longer a suitable entity to be registered to represent motor sport in Malaysia as stipulated under Section 20 of the Sports Development Act,” she said in a statement yesterday.
She explained that AAM could not organise, hold, approve or participate in any activities for any sports either within or outside the country.
AAM had submitted an appeal to the Youth and Sports Minister in accordance with Section 21 of the Act, but it was rejected.
Zaiton said FIA, the international governing body of motor sport, and International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) had been notified of AAM’s deregistration through a letter dated March 8.
