Traveloka designs travel mural on KK hotel

-

KOTA KINABALU: Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s leading online travel company, has collaborated with Ang’s Hotel to design its first mural on a hotel.

The mural painting marks Malaysia as the first country Traveloka is launching this initiative.

Working with a building measuring 64 feet x 44 feet, the mural illustrates a life-sized painting of a young couple at a local beach destination with a plane cruising in the sky, expressing how Traveloka enables you to travel with your loved ones. The design is based on the concept of the ‘Follow Me To’ series made popular by travel photographer Murad Osmann.

The mural is designed by renowned local street art artist Akid One, who made a name for himself when he immortalised two of Malaysia’s greatest national leaders Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Tunku Abdul Rahman on the side walls of a pair of shop houses in Alor Setar. Having worked with several household names since, Akid One is also the grand prize winner of the second edition of “Make Your Mark in Melbourne” street art competition, organised by Visit Victoria.

Akid One began painting the mural on 13 March 2019, completing it in five days.

“We decided to work with Akid One because his works display really strong local nuances. Through our first Traveloka mural, we want to inspire more people to create memorable moments with their loved ones by continuing to travel. We hope that the tagline on our mural ‘Discover new places with Traveloka’ will serve as a reminder for the locals and visitors to expand their horizons and enrich their lives through the wonders of travelling,” said Angelica Chan, Traveloka Country Market Manager for Malaysia.

Ang’s Hotel is strategically located on a major tourist spot on Pantai Street, making it the perfect location for a wonderful photo opportunity for locals and tourists alike.

“We are always on the lookout for ways to elevate the look and feel of our hotel. We are thrilled to partner with Traveloka and have Ang’s Hotel be the first hotel to sport a Traveloka mural. We hope the mural will serve as an attraction spot for visitors to Kota Kinabalu. Although there are not as many murals in Kota Kinabalu as compared to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Ipoh, the city does have some giant murals and is soon becoming a popular place to enjoy street art in Malaysia,” said Ken Ang, Owner of Ang’s Hotel and chairman of the Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (MYBHA), Sabah Chapter.

Visitors and street art enthusiasts can now visit Ang’s Hotel on Pantai Street for a unique photo opportunity with the mural.
