Program to help Sabah SPM and STPM leavers choose right course

-

KOTA KINABALU: The National Organisation of Skilled Workers (PKPB) together with the Malaysia Youth Council (MBM) will be conducting a special programme to address the issue of unemployed graduates in the state.

The programme, dubbed as Belia Mahir, will serve as a 'job-coaching' platform for SPM and STPM leavers. It aims to educate them on how to choose the right course for their tertiary education.

PKPB secretary-general Mohammad Rizan Hassan said all SPM and STPM leavers should change their mindset in choosing their desired career paths after leaving secondary school.

"They have to first understand the actual prospect of their desired career path before they can make a decision on which course they should take when they enter university," he said in a statement.

He opined that some of the SPM and STPM leavers would simply opt for any course without due consideration just for the sake of getting enrolled into higherlearning institutions.

He attributed the increase of unemployed graduates to the fact that many of the graduates may have chosen the wrong courses or had chosen the ones they were not interested in.

"They (SPM and STPM leavers) should first do a bit of research on their desired course before they actually sign up for it.

"That is why PKPB and MBM has opted to take the initiative to organise the Belia Mahir programme," he added.

The Belia Mahir secretariat would be touring around the state March 29 to April 13.

Those who are interested may opt to visit Belia Mahir's official Facebook page or their official website, http://www.beliamahir. com.
