Association offers to help in green energy projects
KOTA KINABALU: Executive Committee members of the Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah), led by its chairman Datuk Peter Lajumin recently paid a courtesy call on Minister of Rural Development Datuk Ewon Benedick at his office here.
During the discussions, the minister highlighted the need for areas far from the SESB power grid to be provided with electricity supply in order to develop these areas.
Options being considered included solar, solar hybrid and small and micro hydro power plants.
Ewon said there was now closer coordination between the Federal and State Rural Development ministries in selecting and implementing projects in Sabah.
This was to ensure that his ministry was involved right from the planning stages in the implementation of such projects.
The minister also stated the need for adequate potable water supplies in rural areas for the villagers' daily needs.
REASabah, whose members come from diverse backgrounds in the power and renewable energy industries, offered the ministry its expertise and experience in developing off-grid renewable energy projects in rural areas.
They were ever willing to offer such services pro bono to assist the ministry to achieve its objectives in providing reliable power supply in the rural areas.
The minister thanked REASabah for its willingness to share its expertise and looked forward to its contribution to the Ministry's objective to provide green energy in the rural areas in Sabah.
