FCAS Dragon Boat Race at Likas Bay June 15-16
KOTA KINABALU: The annual Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race, organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), will be held at Likas Bay on June 15 - 16.
Disclosing this yesterday, FCAS president Tan Sri Dr TC Goh said participating teams can start training for the race at Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club or Kampung Gayang from 8am to 6pm beginning April 6, this year.
Meanwhile, organizing chairlady Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen is confident about attracting more participation this year.
“A total of 120 teams took part in the race last year.
“The participants are mainly from Sabah, Sarawak, West Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and China.”
She also urged registered associations, private companies and members of the public to join the dragon boat race as well.

The briefing session for the dragon boat race will be held at 9am on June 14 (Friday), followed by a welcoming dinner and torch lighting ceremony at Likas Bay in the evening.
On June 15 (Saturday), all participants will take their oath of sportsmanship at the race venue at 7am whereas the heats will start at 8am.
The finals for the respective categories will take place on June 16 (Sunday) starting at 8am.
Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Mahiruddin, who is the guest of honour, will officiate at the opening ceremony and offering of Chinese dumplings.
Tun Juhar will also present the prizes to winning teams at 11am, whereas Goh will give away the prizes for winners of the FCAS Women Bureau’s dumpling contest.
Wong said the dragon boat race this year was divided into nine categories with a total cash prizes of RM 81,500.
The nine categories are: Sabah Head of State Trophy – 800 metres, Sabah Chief Minister’s Trophy – 800m, Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy – 800m, FCAS Trophy (Local FCAS Member Only Mix Team Only) – 800m, FCAS Trophy (Local Chinese Men’s Team Only) – 800m, FCAS Trophy (Local Chinese Mix Teams Only) – 800m, Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (Junior Team Under 20 Years Old) – 800m, Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (International and Malaysian Men’s Team Open) – 200m, and Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (International and Malaysian Mix Team Open) – 200m.
