Electric passenger bus gets positive comments

-

KUCHING: Sarawak’s first electric passenger bus which debuted earlier this month continues to receive local passengers, with many responding with positive comments.

Most senior citizens were seen riding the bus for sightseeing the city centre.

Families were also seen bringing their kids along for the ride since it is currently the school mid-term break.

A number of passengers were interviewed by The Borneo Post yesterday and most of their responses were positive.

According to a passenger named Aida Suraya, she often used the bus to commute from Satok area to the city centre.

“Since its introduction, I took a total of eight trips with the bus,” she added.

Aida, who was accompanied by her husband during the interview, also mentioned that she would still commute with the bus even after the three-month fare-free trial ends.

“I would still use the bus to go around the city area as this is a good addition to the existing public transportation here in Kuching.”

In another interview, Abigail Lim, who was representing a group of toddlers from iChamp Kindergarten (Tadika Sri Juara), told The Borneo Post that she and the toddlers had fun during the bus ride and gave it a ‘5-Star’ rating.

Lim also mentioned that she had mixed feelings on whether or not she would use the service after the trial ends.

“I’ll have to look at the price of the bus fare first,” she added.

A senior citizen named Abdul Rahman suggested that the service should cover more places in Kuching by increasing the number of the buses instead of focusing on the city centre alone.

A passenger from Miri known only as Martina, who was accompanied by her family on a holiday to Kuching, said she enjoyed her very first experience riding the electric bus.

Meanwhile, the electric passenger bus is currently on a three-month free trial run and covers 26 stations.

The stations include the city centre’s attractions such as the Open Air Market, Sarawak Museum and Kuching Waterfront.

The bus can carry up to 53 passengers and comes with free WiFi connection.
