Armed forces veterans urged to help Sabah develop
KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry minister Dr Daud Yusof called upon the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) to help the government develop Sabah.
Dr Daud said when it came to the two East Malaysian states, Sabah was still behind Sarawak in terms of revenue, with Sabah making around RM2billion and Sarawak around RM5 billion last year.
“I ask all members of PVATM to together help develop Sabah,” he said when launching the Sabah PVATM Administrative Management Workshop at Wisma Muis here, yesterday.
Dr Daud pointed out that Sabah needed to pay a salary of RM1billion per year to civil servants alone.
According to PVATM Sabah Yang DiPertua (YDP) Marshid Mohd Salleh, the workshop is the first organized in Sabah.
He said the workshop was intended to strengthen the management skills of participants from branches throughout Sabah.
He said the people needed to forget about politics and move forward to help Sabah progress.
Dr Daud emphasized such things needed to be done for the future of Sabah and its younger generations.
Marshid added that members are PVATM's assets so they must be equipped with strong management skills to help achieve the goals of the organization.
PVATM vice president 2 major general Dato Muhammad Zaki Hamzah, Sabah Department of Veteran Affairs director Major Mohd Kamarulhemi Mohamad Esa, Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) Sabah branch manager Captain Zulkifi Ibrahim and PVATM Sabah deputy YDP Muktar Salamun were also at the ceremony.
