CFM using animation as platform to reach out to public
CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum (CFM) is resorting to animation to raise public awareness on its role and the right of communication service users.
Its chairman Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said based on CFM surveys across the country, more than 60 per cent of communications and multimedia users did not understand CFM’s role.
“The animation contest CFM Animatch, is the first such competition CFM has organised. It requires participants to produce creative animated videos that convey messages and issues that users of communication and multimedia services face regularly,” he told reporters after the CFM Animatch prize presentation at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission here yesterday.
The competition held in Februray received 126 entries of which 10 were selected to the finals. The Cikeboom Group, the trio who produced a video about Internet data usage tips, won the top prize bringing home RM8,500 in cash and a trophy,
Cikeboom comprises an independent animation designer Hasnan Morsidi, 44, Bachelor of Animation 2D degree holder from Universiti Teknologi Mara Mohammad Haikal Danial Mohammad Jota, 21, and private sector employee Mohd Syafiq Yusuf, 25.
The video of the winning team and that of other finalists will be shared on social media and on the CFM YouTube channels as well as multiple television channels. They would be used as community service messages and as a guide on communication and multimedia issues.
The winners in the competition received their prizes from the deputy secretary-general (Policy) of the Communication and Multimedia Ministry Shakib Ahmad Shakir. Shakib, said a competition like CFM Animatch encouraged the country’s animation industry, which has received positive response internationally, to grow. - Bernama
