Tambadaus on right track to Super League — Safa
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Football Association (Safa) acting president Datuk Peter Anthony has advised the Tambadaus not to be carried away by their good run in the Premier League campaign.
While he was happy and proud that Sabah are now top of the league, Peter stressed the squad must continue to produce consistent performance to be genuine contenders.
“So far I’m really happy with the achievement made by the team but it is still too early to celebrate...the season is still a long way to go. We have not even completed the first round fixtures too.
“As leader of Safa, I will continue to make whatever efforts to ensure Sabah Tambadaus will continue to progress and to improve.
“I’m confident we are on the right track to vie for promotion to the Super League next season,” he said.
Peter said this when met after Sabah’s league game against Penang, which saw goals in either half from Brazilian forward Luiz Carlos Junior edge the visiting team 2-0 at the Likas Stadium on Saturday.
The victory coupled with Johor Darul Ta’azim II (JDT II) 1-1 draw against Sarawak allowed Sabah to take over as the new leaders of the league.
Sabah and JDT II have collected 14 points but the Tambadaus occupy top placing through superior goal difference.
However, Sabah have played seven games that produced four wins, two draws and one defeat while JDT II have the advantage of playing onegame less.
“With combined efforts from all namely the administration, management, team officials, players and the fans to carry out roles effectively, I believe we will be able to restore the glory days of Sabah football.
“I hope the good achievement we have now will further motivate and inspire all involved, the team in particular, to work harder,” added Peter who is also Infrastructure Development Minister.
Meanwhile, Sabah will turn their attention to the FA Cup second round tie where they are away to Kelantan United FC on April 3.
