SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Rantau byelection Dr S. Streram expressed his confidence in winning the polls on Saturday.

He said this was based on the support of voters when he met them during the house-tohouse campaign, as well as at the public places (markets and eateries), campaign talks and other programmes.

“Today is the eighth day of campaigning and I find the support from the community have been very encouraging. I’m confident we can win if our election machinery doubling its efforts to win voters’ support.

“With the strong support, I believe that PH will win the Rantau state seat by-election,” he told reporters after meeting the Team Rapid Election Force of the PKR Leadership and Management Academy here yesterday.

He said thus far his campaign programmes covered 70 per cent of the constituency and would intensify the efforts to cover the remaining 30 per cent until the polls on Saturday.

In the meantime, he questioned Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who was Rantau assemblyman for 14 years.

He said many issues yet to be resolved in the constituency such as Malay lands, cemetery in Kampung Bemban, unsatisfactory internet coverage, floods and so on.

“I hope the voters will give me the opportunity to serve,” he said.

The April 13 by-election will witness a four-cornered fight between Dr Streram, Mohamad and two independent candidates, housewife R. Malarvizhi and former lecturer Mohd Nor Yassin.

The by-election was called after the Federal Court dismissed an appeal filed by Mohamad to set aside an Election Court (EC) decision to declare his victory in the 14th General Election (GE14) null and void. - Bernama
