KOTA KINABALU: Parti Tindakan Hak Minoriti (MIRA) is the latest political party to spread its wings to Sabah.

Established in 2017, MIRA had its application to be a political party approved in November last year and it now has three branches in Sabah.

The branches are in Kota Kinabalu, Inanam and Tuaran, MIRA secretary general Kannan Ramasamy said, adding that five more branches would be set up in the near future.

MIRA, he said has about 10,000 members throughout the country and it was set up to champion the rights of ethnic minority in Malaysia.

“Many are not aware of our existence in Sabah and we are working hard to attract more interest to MIRA.

“We expect to get about 500 members through the branches we have set up and will be setting up in Sabah,” Ramasamy said when met at a get-together for MIRA members at Kampung Kionsom, on Saturday.

According to him, MIRA is a strategic partner of Pakatan Harapan and has assisted the coalition in its election campaigns in the 14th general election as well as by-elections.

“We will work with the state government in all aspects especially in efforts to help the ethnic minority in Sabah progress.

“To ensure that our operation runs smoothly, MIRA will open an office in Sabah.

“Among programs we have lined up is to provide free tuition for students sitting for the SPM and UPSR examinations. For now, our focus is to set up more branches so we can help our members who are facing problems from the aspect of their rights,” he stressed.

Among those present at the get-together were MIRA advisor S Balasubramaniyam, MIRA Sabah chairman Devendran Karpudewir and MIRA Inanam chief S Manogaran.
