Dr Mahathir's innuendo on Sabahan or Sarawakian becoming PM unrealistic – Anak Negeri

-

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was being polite and gracious towards Sabah and Sarawak when he said that a Sabahan or Sarawakian can become the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

But such innuendo would not help or satisfy the key demands of Sabah and Sarawak for the fulfillment of state rights spelled out in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution, stressed Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri president,Datuk Henrynus Amin.

According to Henrynus, Anak Negeri is perplexed by the presence of top opposition leaders during the launch of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah by the Prime Minister, at a time when public discontent on the constitutional amendment of Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution was at its height.

“I cannot help but conclude that these opposition leaders who came to welcome the Prime Minister could have sealed a deal in return for their open and passionate support of Bersatu's entry to Sabah. But there seems to be nothing substantive in the speech by the Prime Minister on state rights except an innuendo on the remote possibility of a Sabahan or Sarawakian becoming Prime Minister,” Henrynus said.

“I urge fellow opposition political leaders not be too excited about Sabahan or Sarawakian becoming Prime Minister. These is a vague and unrealistic promise that serves nothing and would certainly not impress ordinary Sabahans,” he added.

Sabahans, he said, should not entertain the unrealistic dreams of becoming Prime Minister of Malaysia.

“To be a Chief Minister or Prime Minister should not be the primary objective to be in politics,” he said, and added that instead the opposition should be the voice of conscience to ensure the ruling government fulfill their election promises and do their work well as expected of them,” he said.
