Ex-drug offender arrested for hurting brother with brick

KOTA KINABALU: A 49-year-old former drug offender was arrested by police for allegedly hurting his 51-year-old brother with a brick.

The suspect was apprehende­d by police following a report made by the victim’s daughter, who claimed that her uncle had hit her father on the head after an argument.

“We received the report on Saturday, April 6.

The complainan­t heard the victim and the suspect arguing outside the house at Kampung Kopungit on the same day, around 5pm.

“The complainan­t found the victim lying on the ground, covered in blood, when she went outside. She also saw the suspect head towards the back of the house,” said Kota Kinabalu acting district police chief Superinten­dent George Abd Rakman in a statement yesterday.

He said the victim was brought to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 where he received seven stitches on the head.

George added the suspect was arrested at 8.50pm on the same day of the assault in front of the Kota Kinabalu district police station and would also be investigat­ed under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after his urine sample tested positive for drugs.

Police have seized the brick purportedl­y used in the crime to facilitate investigat­ion.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Upon conviction, the suspect can be jailed up to three years, fined, whipped or any of the two punishment­s.
