Christina to share political journey at ‘Celebrating Women Leadership’ programme
KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew has been invited to grace the “Celebrating Women Leadership” programme being organised by the Commonwealth Association of Leadership, Malaysia (CALM).
CALM is a new Commonwealth organisation to help nurture and develop future business, government and non-government organisation leaders in Malaysia. It was launched in Kuala Lumpur in October last year.
Charter president of CALM, Hanaa Wong Abdullah, extended the invitation to Liew to participate in an inaugural panel discussion on “Women Leadership” during a courtesy call on the latter who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment.
Wong said the aim of the programme to be held on April 13 at the Zara’s Boutique Hotel is to celebrate all women’s achievements and journeys in life in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2019.
“We have leaders among us who are visionary, who inspire, motivate, lead teams and who empower others. We have sung and unsung heroes among us, who have contributed significantly in their own ways to the progress of our society, State and Nation.
“Datuk Christina will share the story of her political journey from the time she made her political debut in 1985 to be where she is today - creating history as Sabah’s first Chinese woman to be made a Deputy Chief Minister,” Wong said.
Two other speakers at the panel discussion are Joanna Tighe who is the head of Service Excellence and Business Development at Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, and former air stewardess Alyssa Lim who is the founder of Inner Peace Spa Consultancy.
Regus will sponsor the door gifts for participants while the managing director of Zara’s Boutique Hotel, Eliza Goh will sponsor the venue.
Briefing Liew on the role of CALM, Wong said the organisation is part of the network of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences (CSC), adding it will spearhead the mission of the CSC in Malaysia and the region.
Given the huge pool of leadership talent in Malaysia, she said CALM will work closely with the HRH Duke of Edinburgh’s CSC to tap that talent, nurture it and help make Malaysia a shining star of the Commonwealth and beyond.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to help develop Malaysia’s future leaders,” she added.
Meanwhile, Wong introduced several CALM office-bearers to the minister, namely honorary secretary Kennedy John Angian and assistant secretary Yap Li Ling as well as charter members Johan Amilin and Alyssa Lim.
Also present were the ministry’s permanent secretary, William Baya and Sabah Tourism Board deputy general manager Noredah Othman.
