Smart Reader Worldwide launches ‘Save Our Ocean’ campaign

-

KUCHING: Smart Reader Worldwide Sdn Bhd kicked off its ‘Save Our Ocean’ campaign at Camp Permai’s Beach 1 of Permai Rainforest Resort near here yesterday.

The clean-up programme involved over 200 participants comprising pupils from Smart Reader Kids Taman Yen Yen, Smart Reader Kids Rubber Road West, Smart Reader Kids Jalan Kereta Api and Smart Reader Kids Jalan Penrissen, together with their parents as well as Smart Reader Kids staff.

According to Aim Smart Academics Sdn Bhd business development and operations manager Norma John, the objective of the campaign was to raise awareness amongst the children of the importance of preserving the environment.

“Children can pick up habits easily. Here at Smart Reader Kids, we want them to be able to pick up good habits. Letting them experience this in a large group is a good way to teach young children the proper way to manage waste disposal.

“Besides, providing the opportunity for children to be in this environment is a great way for them to bond with their families, and at the same time learn invaluable lifelong skills,” she said.

Sarawak Biodiversity Centre founding chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Hamid Bugo officiated at the launch, where Permai Rainforest Resort operations manager Rahayu Mohd Yussof was present to witness the ceremony.

A total of 455.1kg worth of rubbish, consisting mainly of plastic waste and nonbiodegradable materials, were collected within 30 minutes.
