D’Amazing KBT JN King clinch team title at Int’l Sabah Open

KOTA KINABALU: D’Amazing KBT JN King of Brunei Darussalam claimed the main team event title at the 14th Internatio­nal Sabah Open Darts Tournament over the weekend.

Comprising Pg Mohamad Pg Matarsad, Mohd Hairul Azman, Ak Hamdi Pg Mansor and Hafiz Iskandar, they defeated Nampasan Z of Penampang 85 in the final at the Manggatal Community Centre near here.

The victory won the Anita Samsudin-managed D’Amazing KBT JN King RM7,000, trophies and medals.

As for Nampasan Z consisting of manager-cum-player Epiphanus Lasimbang, Donald Michael, Willie Junior, Melvin George and Anselmus Biujin, the local favourites bagged RM3,000 and medals.

Last year’s champions Izing of Penampang and Five Wonder men of Kota Kinabalu finished joint third and each team won RM1,200 and medals. The joint fifth to eighth placing teams were TCD, D’Factor, Dart Kingdom and Papa Jahat where they each received RM600 and medals for their efforts.

In the 2nd Chance Team Event, DMM Bohukun of Putatan emerged champions and took home RM1,000 and medals while D’LDC B of Kota Belud was the runner-up winning RM500 and medals.

The joint third to fourth placing were Kupang Darters of Tuaran and 221 Taipan of Inanam. Each team received RM250 and medals.

The three-day tournament also featured the individual competitio­ns for men and ladies.

In the Men’s singles, Ak Hamdi clinched his second title of the tournament after beating Jerry Lojitan 8-5 in the final.

Ak Hamdi won RM1,200, trophy and medal for his effort while runner-up Jerry, who represente­d the host Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), settled for RM600 and medals.

Jackson Saw of Keningau and Frankie Binsos of Penampang finished in joint third and fourth placing earning them each RM300 and medals.

The joint fifth to eighth placing offering RM150 and medals to the winners were Pg. Mohammad, Mohammad Mazmillah, Masnizam Maslin and Aaron H.

In the ladies singles, Sabah’s top dart player, Bernadette Phillipa of Kapayan, faced little problem winning the title after beating Anita of Sarawak in the final.

Champion Bernadette received RM800, trophy and medals while Anita pursed RM300 and medals.

Melania Maidi of Penampang and Valerie Yapp of Kota Kinabalu finished in joint third and fourth placing. They each received RM150 and medal.

Jacqueline Augustine, who was the champion last year, settled for joint fifth to eighth placing with Emily Dambung, Nor Azila Mat Ripin and Naimah Katagis. They each won RM80 and medal.

Tournament coordinato­r, Mike A. Lojitan, presented the prizes to the winners.

Organised by DBKK, the three-day tournament attracted some 500 players from all over Sabah, Labuan, Miri, Kuala Lumpur and Brunei Darussalam.
