TAWAU: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Jimmy Wong has called on employers to voluntarily lend their lorries, water tanks or water pumps for carrying water to water-deficient areas in Tawau, particularly at the Sri Tanjong constituency.

Jimmy, who is Sri Tanjong assemblyman, also encouraged people in Tawau, especially youngsters to come forward and offer assistance during this water crisis.

He said this when visiting the water treatment plant at Jalan Utara here on Monday. He was accompanied by Sri Tanjong Community Development leader Koo Hung Eow.

Jimmy was informed that the water level of the Tawau River had dropped to 0.82 meter and only one pump at the Utara water treatment plant was used for three days, resulting in water supply interruption at some areas in Tawau.

Normally, two pumps would be used concurrently if the water level reaches 0.9 meter or above.

Therefore, he urged the Tawau community to save water and control their daily use of water such as car washing or watering plants.

Meanwhile, Koo disclosed that the water intake point at Sin On Tiku here is expected to operate on April 10 and people who are urgently in need can get water supply from there.

Those who volunteer to lend their lorries, water tanks and pumps can contact Lennon Lee at 0198631311 or Sri Tanjong Community Development supervisor Woo Soon Fatt at 0128150815.
