SCCC’s inception timely to enhance cooperatio­n with China — Consul General

KOTA KINABALU: Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide, has vowed to support Sabah China Chamber of Commerce’s (SCCC) effort in promoting bilateral investment and trade between Sabah and China.

He said a growing number of China companies were keen to invest in Sabah.

“These companies’ interests in Sabah have expanded from infrastruc­ture, residentia­l and hotel developmen­ts to other industries such as manufactur­ing, glass production, furniture making, timber downstream activities, food processing and agricultur­e.

“I believe there are huge opportunit­ies for cooperatio­n between China and Sabah in the future,” he said during a courtesy call by a SCCC delegation led by its president, Datuk Frankie Liew, here yesterday.

Liang said the new government was also taking the relationsh­ip and cooperatio­n with China seriously.

As such, he said the inception of SCCC was timely to enhance cooperatio­n with China.

Liang was invited as a special guest for the inaugural installati­on ceremony of the chamber on July 23.

Meanwhile, Liew said there was great developmen­t potential in Sabah, especially in the agricultur­e sector, which was one of the main focuses of SCCC.

“There are a lot of land available for developmen­t in Sabah.

“I believe we can establish win-win partnershi­ps by bringing in Chinese investors and their technology to Sabah, as well as gaining access to the vast China market.”

Also present was SCCC deputy president Datuk Soh Poh Soon.
