Over 150 technologists gather in Kota Kinabalu
KOTA KINABALU: More than 150 technologists from all over the country gathered in Kota Kinabalu last weekend to attend the 72nd National Annual Dinner and Annual General Meeting of Technological Association of Malaysia (TAM) .
In his speech, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking hoped TAM can play an active role with his ministry to bring in more quality international trade and industry players to Malaysia by competing internationally in the emerging technologies ahead.
“Malaysia will benefit from the inflow of foreign investments through various industries set up. Technologists in manufacturing, construction, industrial, maintenance, and management are playing a very important role in the advancement of our country,” said Darell whose speech was delivered by his political secretary Pritchard Gumbaris
He praised TAM for playing a role in the advancement and enhancement of technologists in Malaysia.
The TAM national annual dinner themed “Towards Enhancement of Technologists” was hosted by TAM Sabah branch with its immediate past chairman Simon Goh as organising chairman.
TAM Sabah chairman Jacob Yan said technology is an essential part of our lives today and will shape the future to make it compatible with nature.
Yan said with the formation of the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), technologists and technicians would no longer be considered as “second class engineers”, as those who register with MBOT would be recognised as a Professional Technologist or Certified Technician according to their expertise.
He highlighted that TAM is the oldest serving technological organisation in Malaysia and is the right networking platform for members to interact with technologists at all discipline and grade.
“TAM together with MBOT is playing an important role in professionalizing the technologists and technicians to be prepared for the digital revolution and a harmonious, prosperous and sustainable nation,” said Yan who urged all technologists and technicians to join TAM as members.
“On the other hand, we believe that local enterprises and industries will do well by carrying out training to improve their workforce’s skills as a form of investment rather than expenses.
“TAM Sabah is willing to offer a helping hands to the local enterprises to step up and take the necessary measures to ensure they are ready for the changes that the new industrial age will bring as unlike the previous industrial revolutions, the fourth industrial revolution is coming about at a much faster pace because of technology and the connectivity available today,” he said.
The Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic student dance troupe presented a series of cultural dances to entertain the guests, including TAM National President Yam Teong Sian, TAM advisor Choo Kok Beng.
