Bowls Sabah's Shuib elected as EXCO member of MLBF

KOTA KINABALU: After a four-year gap, Sabah Lawn Bowls Associatio­n (Bowls Sabah) now has a representa­tive in the Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF).

Shuib Hashim, who is deputy president of Bowls Sabah, has been elected as one of the seven EXCO members of the national body.

Shuib garnered 41 votes, the third highest among the 15 candidates vying for the post at the MLBF general meeting-cum election of the 20192021 EXCO members in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Hj Ahmad Hisham Hassan of Terengganu with 49 votes, Kamarudin Mohd Nordin (Johor - 42 votes), Kamis Harun (Perlis - 37 votes), Haslah Hasan (Selangor with 28 votes), Meskam Salimi (Selangor with 25 votes) and Datuk Hashim Russi (Negeri Sembilan with 25 votes) are the other successful candidates.

Bowls Sabah president Datuk Ladislaus Maluda described Shuib's selection into the national body as important for the the sport in the state.

"The last minute nomination of Shuib to contest for the EXCO seat has paid off handsomely...he received the third highest votes among the 15 candidates.

"More importantl­y, Sabah will now have a representa­tive in the MLBF supreme council after a four year absence.

"We wish him the best," he said while hoping that Shuib's election would have positive impact on Bowls Sabah.

Shuib, on the other hand, pledged his best as MLBF EXCO member for 2019-2021 and thanked the state associatio­n in which he has been with since 1999 for its support.

Meanwhile, Datuk Hj Wan Nawawi Hj Wan Ismail won unconteste­d as the president of MLBF while the two deputy presidents YAM Tengku Datin Noor Hazah Alhajjah Tengku Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj of Perak and Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz of Kuala Lumpur also retained their posts.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammed of Sarawak and Hj Roslan B. S. Ismail of Malacca are the vice presidents after garnering the most votes out of four candidates.
