Training for FCAS Internatio­nal Dragon Boat Race launched

KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Sabah (FCAS) held a ceremonial launching ceremony for the training season of the annual Sabah FCAS Internatio­nal Dragon Boat Race.

Led by FCAS president Tan Sri Dr T.C. Goh, JP and vice president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, the committee had firsthand experience paddling a dragon boat at Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club last Saturday.

The sixth Sabah FCAS Internatio­nal Dragon Boat Race will be held at Likas Bay on June 15 and 16.

Preparatio­n for the event is in full swing and registrati­on is now open. Malaysian and internatio­nal teams are welcome to take part in the race.

Participat­ing teams can start training for the race at Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club or Kampung Gayang from 8am to 6pm daily beginning April 6.

Wong, who is also the organizing chairperso­n, urged registered associatio­ns, private companies and members of the public nationwide to join the dragon boat race.

Outstation participan­ts can download the entry forms from www.sabahdrago­nboat.com while locals can contact FCAS Secretaria­t at 088-253 433 or Grace at 016-806 2177, Madeleine Lee at 012-802 3282 and Chia at 012-514 8911 for registrati­on.

Wong said the dragon boat race this year was divided into nine categories with a total cash prize of RM81,500.

The nine categories are: Sabah Head of State Trophy - 800 metres, Sabah Chief Minister’s Trophy - 800 metres, Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy - 800 metres, FCAS Trophy (Local FCAS Members Only Mix Team Only) - 800 metres, FCAS Trophy (Local Chinese Men’s Team Only) - 800 metres, FCAS Trophy (Local Chinese Mix Teams Only) - 800 metres, Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (Junior Team Under 20 Years Old) - 800 metres, Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (Internatio­nal and Malaysian Men’s Team Open) - 200 metres; and Kinabalu Dragon Trophy (Internatio­nal and Malaysian Mix Team Open) - 200 metres.

“The over 150 member associatio­ns under FCAS are eligible to compete for the FCAS Trophy (Local FCAS Member Only Mix Team Only).

“This year’s dragon boat race is going to be an intense, exciting experience for both the participan­ts and audience,” Wong added.
