Hap Seng Group will build a water treatment plant to address the water problem faced by Bandar Sri Indah residents in Tawau, and the project which has been approved by the Water Department is expected to be completed within three months after commencement of construction.

TAWAU: Hap Seng Group will build a water treatment plant to address the water problem in Bandar Sri Indah (BSI) and the plant is expected to be completed within three months after commencement of construction.

Hap Seng Group director Datuk Simon Shim said the project was approved by Sabah Water Department director, and that this was good news for the residents of BSI.

“I was briefed by Hap Seng Group chief engineer Chris Chiew, and chief operating officer of Hap Seng Properties Development Sdn Bhd, John Tan, on the construction of the plant on April 6 at the Hap Seng office,” he said.

Simon said, the water treatment plant project is a fully Hap Seng project and its construction cost is borne by Hap Seng.

He said, BSI residents will enjoy clean water supply from this project as the engineering side has tested the water content from six places and found that it is clean and suitable for drinking after being treated. The treated water, he said, will then be pumped to a 100 million gallons water tank for preparation if the water supply from the Water Department is cut off.

He said, Hap Seng would be responsible for the water problem faced by the residents in BSI and the construction of the water treatment plant was the initiative of the company to address this problem, and Hap Seng would always consult the government about the construction to be implemented.

“This project proves that Hap Seng is very concerned and will continue to look after the welfare of BSI residents in addition to assisting the government in providing facilities for the people in the area,” he added.

Chris Chiew, when interviewed, said that after meeting with Tawau water engineers, the water problems in the BSI area and surrounding areas were found to be due to critical water supply due to the extremely low water level at the river.

The construction of Hap Seng’s water treatment plant would be very timely to address the water problem at this time, he said.

According to him, the treatment plant will be able to treat 250 thousand litres of water per day, and once it is fully operational, the BSI population will not experience anymore water disruption.

Meanwhile, John Tan said, Hap Seng is a well-known brand for over 40 years and every Hap Seng customer will continue to be given a good guarantee.

He said, the housing in BSI has reached 15 years and 5,000 houses have been built. Hap Seng has provided all the basic amenities to meet the welfare of the BSI residents.

At the moment, he said, BSI faces water problems although this is not Hap Seng’s responsibility, but on the basis of maintaining the welfare of the residents and wanting to help the government, Hap Seng has come forward to address these problems.

According to him, Hap Seng has also spent RM5 million to connect electricity from the grid to BSI so that BSI residents will not experience electricity supply problems anymore.

“Recently, Hap Seng also bought water from the Water Department to be channeled to BSI residents for free,” he said.

John said, home buyers will not just look at the location and surrounding scenery but would also investigate the background of the housing company and Hap Seng company is very reliable in developing the best housing.
