STAR to field ex-teacher in Sandakan by-election

-

SANDAKAN: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR Sabah) has recently announced that it is going to contest in the Sandakan parliamentary by-election.

The party will field a 50-yearold former teacher, Liew Wean Chee.

Liew when met by The Borneo Post said although she is new to the political scene for having first joined politics and STAR two years ago, she had been studying the political scene in Sabah for a long time.

She said after retiring from teaching in 2008, she wanted to take her Master’s in Education and then to the next level by taking PhD by doing research on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), but has yet to be offered such an opportunity.

Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Liew said that she could see that the economy in Sandakan would be the main reason the locals would not vote for Democratic Action Party (DAP) this time.

“The people are disappointed. Almost a year after the change of Government and shops are still closed in Sandakan. We are not doing great, with the increase in goods prices and business trying to survive with an economy that seems to be becoming worse,” she claimed.

Liew also said that the people are disappointed with unfulfilled promises made by Pakatan Harapan, and that she agreed with former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak that Pakatan Harapan was giving promises that were hard to fulfil before election because PH did not expect to win.

“However, I am still supporting Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister. If I become a member parliament for Sandakan, I will be the voice of the people in Sandakan in the Parliament; I will point out what the Government is doing is wrong and ensure that they keep their promises for the people here. I will work with the Government to ensure that the rakyat get the comfortable lives that they deserve,” she added.

Liew said that if all parties under Gabungan Bersatu Sabah agreed that a STAR candidate would be fielded in the Sandakan by-election, then it would further prove to the public that STAR is a multiracial party with four Chinese constituencies, including P186.

She said as a STAR member, she would fight for the status of Sabah and Sarawak’s in the federation, under the leadership of her idol, Sabah STAR president, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

To date, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) under Gabungan Bersatu Sabah have yet to announce which party will put up a candidate for the Sandakan parliamentary seat.
