Riamtec introduces ‘Everyone Can Study Scheme’ specially for lower income group

-

MIRI: Riam Institute of Technology, which is also known as Riamtec, is making a positive move towards providing education to the lower income group by introducing its ‘Everyone Can Study Scheme’.

At a press conference yesterday, its CEO John Wong said with this scheme, students whose parents are recipients of the Bantuan Sara Hidup or BSH (formerly known as ‘BR1M’) are entitled to apply for special entitlements when pursuing Riamtec’s MQA (Malaysian Qualifications Agency) diploma courses.

“The scheme aims to provide tertiary education opportunity for students coming from the B40 families,” he added.

Owing to the economic recession and financial constraint of many families, he said many students have the ability but not the financial means to study.

Hence, Riamtec has specially come up with this scheme so that students from the lower income group can have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education, he added.

Wong explained these entitlements would include a 45 per cent tuition fee discount for all MQA diploma courses, special hostel rental rate of only RM150 per month for outstation students (based on first come, first served basis), National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) loan assistance and start-up fee of RM500 to be paid by the applicants before or on orientation day.

Each applicant needs to come up with their parents’ latest three-month payslips, latest two-year EPF statements, BSH documents, photocopy of their parents’ and their own MyKad or passport, three passport-sized photographs, SPM result slip along with the application form and registration fee of RM300.

In addition, Riamtec also offers sibling discount of 20 percent on his or her tuition fee. This sibling discount will be awarded to the next sibling when both siblings are registered in Riamtec at the same time tuition fees are paid in full; or if one sibling has completed a course in Riamtec.

Riamtec offers MQA-approved skill-based diploma courses in the fields of Automotive Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Commerce, Hotel Management and Accounting.

Once enrolled into these programmes, Riamtec’s counsellors will provide stepby-step guidance and services to every student on the PTPTN loan application process.
