Best outing so far for SKAS — Simon
KOTA KINABALU: Shotokan Karate Association of Sabah (SKAS) bagged six gold medals at the 11th Kota Kinabalu Karate Open Championship recently.
They also bagged one silver and three bronze medals making it the best outing for the association so far.
“This event has been the most outstanding performance for us for the local championship, where eight out of ten athletes bagged at least one medal each,” said SKAS president Simon Chia.
Andryan Sze Hoong Chong contributed two gold medals and one bronze in the kumite and kata events. The other gold medals also came from kumite events through Juliet Sandra Ain Abd Rahman, Shairul Mohammad Afiz Jefry Izz Daniel Jauw and Juliet Sutra Nera Abd Rahman.
The other two bronze medals came from Ellwine Joe Donny and the Boys Team Kumite which comprised Muhammad Haqeem Al Rayyan Muhammad Imran Voo, Izz Danieland Shairul.
The tournament attracted 464 exponents representing 24 teams from Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, Johor, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Germany and India.
Towards this end, Simon congratulated the medal winners and thanked everyone that helped contribute to the association’s success.
“Congratulations to those who won medals especially gold medals. We would like to thank SKAS, parents and athletes for their utmost commitment.
“We couldn’t have done it without their support. Big thank you to president of Kota Kinabalu KOS Karate Association Sensei Loh Beng Hooi and team…they did a good job during the tournament,” he said.
