SAFA chief wants Tambadaus to regain winning streak

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FA acting president Datuk Peter Anthony wants the State football senior squad to pull their socks up and regain their rhythm.

“We are disappointed with the two consecutive defeats recently. It was unexpected especially with the six-match unbeaten run that we had before this.

“However, we need to end the disappointment and stop worrying about it and focus on the up-coming matches,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Sabah Tambadaus had a good run in the Premier League but their record was spoiled after losing 1-0 to third tier side Kelantan United FC in the FA Cup second round match on April 3.

Their efforts to try and bounce back failed to materialise when they lost again this time to Premier League rivals Selangor United, Saturday.

Peter who witnessed the match against Selangor United said that the Jelius Ating-coached side lost the match after the strikers lost their touch and were punished (2-1) for their own mistakes.

“I hope the team can show that they got their rhythm back in the two consecutive home matches, which are coming up.

“We hope to see their good performance again to ensure that our target to the Super League next season remains relevant. Our focus now is on the Premier League after being eliminated from the FA Cup,” he said.

Sabah Tambadaus will continue their Premier League challenge against UiTM FC at the Likas Stadium on Saturday, before hosting UKM FC next week.

They are currently second in the standings on 14 points from four wins, one draw and two defeats. They trail by one point from leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim II, who have 15 points from seven matches.

Sabah’s opponent this Saturday, UiTM FC, are currently in third spot on 13 points. Selangor United are also on 13 points in fourth spot, while Terengganu FC II trail closely in fifth on 12 points.
