House break-ins at Sri Tanjong spark security concerns

-

TAWAU: Sri Tanjong Community Development Leader Koo Hung Eow and his team paid a courtesy call on the Tawau police yesterday to discuss the need to enhance security in the district.

Koo said the number of house break-in cases at several residential areas at Sri Tanjong was alarming and this was causing anxiety among the community.

He said the affected residential areas were Taman Sri Utama, Taman Da Hua 1, Taman Melur, Taman Tai Warn, Taman Hong Yee, Amanah Park, Taman Green as well as at Taman Da Hua 3.

Koo was told by some of the victims that the burglars nowadays were becoming more professional and they would bring with them iron rods and weapons while committing the offence. They even commit the crime during the day.

The victims believe that the burglars were the same group of people but no suspect has been arrested so far, and the residents, particularly those from the Sin On area, are worried that they may become the next victims.

The victims also urged the Tawau police to enhance patrolling at certain hotspots in Tawau while investigating the reported burglary cases indepth.

During the call, Tawau police Crime Prevention and Community Security head DSP Nasir bin Muslen said the police had enhanced patrolling at certain hotspots in Tawau and they would hold a big operation shortly.

State Assistant Minister cum Sri Tanjung assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong also expressed his concern on the high number of burglary cases in Tawau recently and he strongly urged Tawau police to take stern action against these crimes.
