Tawau fire victims get aid from Apas rep

-

TAWAU: Eight families, who lost their homes to fire at Tawau Lama recently, received aid from Apas assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan yesterday.

Nizam, who visited the families no putting up at their temporary tents at At-Taqwa since the incident four days ago, handed cash and cooking gas cylinders as contribution from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah.

Nizam, who is also the sponsoring chairman for Bersatu Tawau, said he was confident that the government would help the victims, especially those without a permanent home.

He said the victims, totalling 84 people including their family members, could apply to get a place at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in the district.

The victims hoped they would get some aid to build back their houses as some of them could not work as they need to take care of their children as they are living in the tents.

Single mother, Nurhayati Baharudin, 42, said after the incident, she and her three children had no place to go.

“The house was my late husband’s house, he died five years ago. I do not know what to do now, we hope the government will help us,” she told reporters.

For Yeni Raman, 45, a mother of four, she and her husband had to rent a house for now.

“We have no other option but to rent a house,” she said. Four houses were gutted in the 9.30 am fire. Seven houses were destroyed by fire last Monday at about 9.30am while three other houses were partially destroyed at Tawau Lama, At-Taqwa Mosque road.
