KUALA LUMPUR: About 80 to 90 per cent of the 1.5 million Indonesian voters working in Malaysia are expected to cast their ballots in early voting in the Indonesian presidential election.

The voting centres include Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, George Town, Kuching, Tawau and Kota Kinabalu, said Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Krishna K.U, Hannan.

Polling day is April 17 in Indonesia where over 192 million people will cast their ballots for either Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, or Prabowo Subianto to be president for the 2019-2024 term.

Jokowi is seeking re-election for the second term and has influential ulama Ma’ruf Amin as his vicepresidential running mate.

Prabowo, a former military chief, is partnering former Jakarta deputy governor Sandiaga Uno.

In Tawau, Sabah, the Indonesian consulate chief Sulistijo Djati Ismojo said 38,124 Indonesian nationals in the Sabah east coast had voted through the mobile ballot box between April 8 and 10.

He said they were among the 51,922 voters eligible to vote through the mobile ballot box in Tawau, Kalabakan, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Sandakan.

“The remaining 13,798 voters will be allowed to vote along with those voting on April 14,” he told Bernama.

The polling station to be opened on Sunday is at the Tawau consulate in Lorong 11, Megah Jaya, Tawau, he said.

In Johor Bahru, the Indonesian consul-general Anang Fauzi Firdaus said 5,906 voters are eligible to vote in Johor on Sunday.

They can cast their ballots at the Johor Bahru consulate-general in Jalan Taat, off Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, between 8 am and 6 pm, he said.
