MP clears air over KK Skybridge project

-

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said he is also very concerned about the present position of the Skybridge project here.

“I wish to state here as the MP for Kota Kinabalu that I am also as concerned as anyone. I have met with all the relevant parties and I have also perused all the available documents pertaining to this matter,” he said, when commenting on the statement over the stalled Skybridge project by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) information chief Chin Vui Kai, which was published in local newspapers yesterday.

These are the following matters that have come to light upon further inquiries on this matter:

* That Unit Kerjasama Awam Swasta (UKAS), a federal agency under the Finance Ministry, has terminated the agreement signed with Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd to build the Skybridge due to the fact that the company has wound up.

* That Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd has in fact taken up loans for purposes of the Skybridge, but somehow the contractor has not been paid.

* The unsecured creditors have filed their proof of debt against Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd and the total sum is about RM142 million (according to the Liquidator's report that was tendered in Court).

* The Liquidator of Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd has also reported that even with all the UKAS funds were to be released to the company, it will still not be enough to complete the Skybridge.

* That the Court had, on April 8, 2019, dismissed Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd's application to terminate the winding-up order made against them.

Chan said he was informed that some of the arguments presented was that there was no need to revive Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd with millions of debts merely to complete the remaining 8% or so of the Skybridge.

“Any Sabahan contractor can complete the same. It was also argued that since the winding-up of Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd, there has been no proper statement of affairs filed and there were some questionable transactions as revealed by the liquidator.

“I believe that City Hall (DBKK), being the landowner, can and will work out something eventually in order to resolve this Skybridge matter. We are also concerned with the fact that all unit owners in the Oceanus Mall are also victims in this whole episode and that the interests of the public shall be weighed accordingly in this matter.

“As it can be seen, I have made my best effort to resolve the issue. Therefore, to the SAPP information chief, please get your facts right before making unsubstantiated allegations," Chan said.
