Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani in his speech praised the efforts undertaken by the Sabah GOF brigade that had organised four of the five courses that had been planned.

Acryl said the Tiger Platoon aimed to empower the GOF in line with the security threats faced by the country today.

He said to carry out the task, GOF needed all of its members to be well-trained, multi-capable and to have expertise in implementing more effective operations.

“In this regard, we have plans to expand the Tiger Platoon to other infantry in GOF so that the whole infantry will be more trained,” he said in his speech at the closing of Tiger Platoon course at Battalion 17 GOF, yesterday.

According to Acryl, the Tiger Platoon was trained as a skilled elite team in combat, to perform high-risk tasks in addressing domestic security threats which involved guerrilla warfare tactics in forests, cities and waters.

He said the Tiger platoon was also capable of gathering information on enemy targets in the forest, plantation and the rural areas.

The platoon, he said was also capable to fight insurgency in the city and forest, in combating organized criminal activity, implementing search and rescue tasks as well as security control cover for VVIPs.

“In order to implement the tasks efficiently, all members should always be positive, acting according to established procedures and avoid getting involved in negative activities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sabah GOF Brigade commander Datuk Zanuddian Samsu Hadi said the selection of methods, schedules, syllabus and duration of tests and the basic course of the Tiger Platoon were discussed and carefully studied by taking into account the factors of threats, logistical capabilities and experience of coaches in the previous operations before being implemented.

Zanuddian said the course was for twelve weeks and was divided into two phases where the participants would be exposed to various tactical skills and various physical and mental tests.

“This is the third series of the Tiger Platoon training for Sabah GOF Brigade this year and we have planned to organize five, where only one platoon has yet to undergo the course and training,” he added.
