Privacy in limelight over Andy Hui's tryst in taxi
HONG KONG: Former privacy commissioner Allan Chiang has warned that both Apple Daily and a taxi driver could face penalties for breaching Hong Kong’s privacy law after a 16minute video of singer Andy Hui making out with actress Jacqueline Wong had gone viral.
In a public apology during a press conference, Andy had admitted to cheating on his wife, Cantopop star Sammi Cheng.
Jacqueline, who was Andy’s previous girlfriend, is currently in a relationship with actor Kenneth Ma. There have been no comments from Kenneth thus far, but he is known for being a very conservative person.
Sammi and Jacqueline often work out in the gym together, and she would definitely be aghast to discover that Andy has been “working out” in the taxi with her gym partner.
Video footage taken from inside a taxi was leaked online and splashed across major tabloids here on Tuesday.
In the video, Andy can be seen holding hands and placing his hand on the thigh of a woman, who was identified by Apple Daily as TVB actress Jacqueline Wong.
Another man was initially in the same cab as Andy and Jacqueline, but left after Andy assured him that they would be heading for two different destinations. After the man left, both Andy and Jacqueline told the driver to head to just one location.
During the press conference to tender his apology, a remorseful Andy, 51, said what he did was “unforgivable”.
In between sobs, he said: “I’ve come here today to take responsibility. I regret it very much, and find it very hard to face myself and accept myself.”
Andy also claimed he was intoxicated.
Added Andy: “My biggest mistake was losing myself. I hope everyone can give me time to find myself again.
Andy and Sammi, 46, had been married for about five years.
As newsmen looked on in astonishment, a traumatised looking Andy said: “After seeing the reports, I feel very ashamed. I’m truly wrong, hateful, disgusting, and unrecognisable. I have deeply reflected and asked why I couldn’t have stopped myself from making this mistake and controlling my lust.”
