KOTA KINABALU: To attract more tourists, especially from Sabah to visit Mulu, MASwings took a leap by offering its latest “Best Mulu Deals Packages” which included a direct flight from Kota Kinabalu to Mulu.

The Kota Kinabalu-Mulu route, which is the third direct flight to Mulu provided by MASwings, makes up a total capacity of 3,880 flight seats. Other direct flights are from Kuching and Miri.

Sarawak Tourism Board chairman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz said the latest “Best Mulu Deals Packages” included air ticket prices on MASwings, with accommodation on a sharing basis at either Bendarat Lodge, Mulu Park (Longhouse) or Mulu Marriot Resort & Spa.

“These packages, specially designed between MASwings and other agencies, will cover a stay between two to three nights maximum for guests who are keen to explore and discover Mulu - the hidden jewel of Borneo.

“We need such promotions for tourists and other guests to come and explore Sarawak for its nature and wilderness, especially Mulu, which will also help to generate economic spinoff for the local community,” he said during the launching of the deal at the Le Meridien Hotel, yesterday.

“For this I must thank MASwings, for working very hard and aggressively to provide efficient air transportation within Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.

He also said MASwings was collaborating with other travel companies, including Tropical Adventure Sarawak and Sarawak Tourism, in its continuous efforts to promote Mulu to the outside world.

Stating that Sabah has an increasing number of tourists coming in on a yearly basis, Abdul Wahab said he hoped to see tourists coming in to Sarawak, and targeted about five million tourists for the Visit Sarawak Campaign 2019.

He said the campaign, with the official tagline of “More to Discover” was launched last year and aimed to position Sarawak as a preferred tourist destination, with offerings on new and enhanced tourism products.

Meanwhile, MASwings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Aminuddin Zakaria said Mulu Best Deals offered an all-inclusive travel package from as low as RM714 per person for two days one night ex Kota Kinabalu, available from April until December and also offered packages ex Kuching and Miri into Mulu.

“I must indicate here that the commitment by MASwings to promote Mulu is a concerted effort of close working relationship and commitment with one of our esteemed agents, Tropical Adventure Mid and complemented by other supporting partners - the Marriot Resort Mulu and Mulu National Park.

“This collaboration aims to enhance and promote Mulu as an all season holiday destination whereby the packages are designed to allow customers to plan for their holidays better, and of course budget. Through these packages promoted here, customers and holiday seekers can directly purchase the flight, ground transportation, accommodations and tour packages with a touch of a button - that easy and hassle free. It’s a one-step forward initiative taken by MASwings to promote Mulu in a big way to enable more Malaysians, especially local Sabahans the opportunity to (visit) worldclass geo-tourism destination at affordable prices.

“We at MASwings are delighted to be part of promoting the ‘pride of Sarawak’ and ‘the Unesco Heritage Site’ to the rest of the world.

“MASwings, being the airline for the people in Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan, currently operates one daily service from Kota Kinabalu and Kuching to Mulu and twice daily from Miri to Mulu, making Mulu the highly connected tourist destination within MASwings network. This will definitely help to achieve MASwings’ plan to promote Mulu in particular, and Sarawak, generally,” he said.

He also highlighted that MASwings has improved tremendously in its operations and services and has been delivering an excellent On Time Performance with almost nil cancellations.
