FA Cup: Pahang through to quarter-finals, JDT knocked out

KUALA LUMPUR: FA Cup defending champions, Pahang have cruised into the 2019 FA Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Premier League side, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM FC) at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, Wednesday night.

Both teams fought hard in the match but the score remained 0-0 at half time.

In the second half, Pahang who have a clean record at the Super League so far took control of the match before Ze Love almost netted a goal when his attempt hit the woodwork in the 54th minute.

It was national defender, Matthew Davies who eventually answered Pahang’s prayers when he scored the much-awaited goal with his left foot in the 84th minute.

At the same, 2018 Super League champions and current Super League leader, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) were forced to accept a 0-1 defeat at the hands of PKNS FC at home in Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin.

The Southern Tigers who were forced to play with 10 men as early as the 11th minute when Francisco Insa received a red card for a rough tackle on Muhammad Faizat Mohamad Ghazli, failed to find the equaliser after PKNS FC shot in a goal via former Liberian national player Kpah Shermanin the 48th minute.

Meanwhile, Perak and PKNP FC had to work hard before bouncing back beat their opponents and claim a slot each in the quarterfin­als.

Perak who were visitors at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka, found Jerantut FA a tough nut to crack before their Brazilian import wander Luiz slammed in two goals to put Perak through with a 2-1 win.

Luiz was the toast of Perak when he netted in the 75th and 85th minutes to erase the opening goal by Jerantut FA via Muhammad Firdaus Abd Razak in the 45th minute.

At Manjung Municipal Stadium, PKNP FC came from behind to edge Police 3-2.

Yashir Islame put PKNP FC in the lead in the 16th minute, before Police went ahead 2-1 with goals from Patrik Wleh in the 23rd minute and Muhammad Fauzan Mohd Fauzi (46th minute).

PKNP FC surprise the visitors when they equalised in the 74th minute via Mohd Fazrul Hazli Kadri before Hafiz Ramdan thundered the winning goal in the 88th minute. - Bernama
