Kenneth backs Jacqueline, Sammi leaves marital home

HONG KONG: In a whirlwind of events following singer Andy Hui’s tryst with actress Jacqueline Wong, Kenneth Ma has defended her, while Sammi Cheng has abandoned the marital home.

Andy and Sammi had been married for about five years, while actors Kenneth Ma and Jacqueline Wong are in a steady relationship.

Both romances have been rocked by a 16-minute leaked video of the tryst. But Kenneth, in a statement issued to newsmen outside the TVB studio, has steadfastly defended Jacqueline.

Kenneth, who appeared calm while facing dozens of newsmen, said in Cantonese: “Jacqueline is still young and inexperienced. She will learn from this. Many people have been hurt by the revelations. I hope you (newsmen) will not continue to focus on this. Please do not sensationalise the issue. I promise to focus on my filming.”

Explaining Jacqueline’s absence, he added: “Jacqueline is not here to address you because the management (TVB) feels that she is too emotionally distraught and might say what she does not actually mean.”

Addressing the fact that newsmen had been pestering his mother for comments, Kenneth appealed: “Please leave my mother alone. She is not in showbiz. When startled by a large number of newsmen with questions, she may say something she does not really mean. Please leave her alone.”

As newsmen continued to question him on his relationship with Jacqueline, Kenneth just muttered: “Thank you, thank you. That is all I have to say. Thank you for your concern.”

He put his hands together in a show of appreciation, and walked back into the studio.

reported that estranged Cantopop queen Sammi Cheng has moved out of the marital home in Repulse Bay.

Family members are with her, but she refuses to see anyone else. Reports indicate she is down with insomnia, and is not answering calls.

Before her marriage, Sammi had suffered from a bout of depression.

Meanwhile, her record company has temporarily halted all of her activities.
