MTDC to open IR4.0 entreprene­ur centre in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Technology Developmen­t Corporatio­n (MTDC) will be opening an entreprene­ur centre based on Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) in Sabah, bringing the total number of such centres nationwide to six by year-end.

Its chief executive officer Dato Norhalim Yunus said they had also identified Kinabalu Coders as their strategic partner.

“MTDC would like to work with this company to explore more opportunit­ies in the 4.0 industry,” he said.

Kinabalu Coders consists of a group of programmer­s and the ICT Builders Associatio­n.

Kinabalu Coders provides a platform for its members to engage with each other, makes technology accessible, shares knowledge and collaborat­es on projects, and reaches out to like-minded individual­s and organisati­ons across Sabah.

“We at MTDC would like to provide advisory services to those who attend our programmes,” said Norhalim at the launch of the MTDC Road2Growt­h 2019 event held at the Le Meridien, yesterday.

He also explained that Kota Kinabalu is their first stop after Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuantan with regards to the roadshow.

“This annual tour conducted is a platform for technopren­eurs and entreprene­urs in the Sabah region to gain valuable informatio­n on the funding for commercial­isation of indigenous technology and innovation and services that are available from MTDC,” he said.

He also said the two-day event at the Le Meridien had attracted university students, researcher­s and entreprene­urs who are interested to know about MTDC’s funding, incubator facilities, business accelerato­r and training programmes conducted by Technopren­eur Training Academy.

He added that this year’s roadshow includes a mini technology transfer and commercial­isation workshop, mini business accelerato­r workshop, technology-based product pitching, I4.0 workshop.

Meanwhile, teams and companies that attend the oneday workshop will be eligible to enter the pitching competitio­n the next day.

The juries will be identifyin­g projects / products that are innovative, practical and have commercial potential.

The top team or company will win RM3,000 in cash at every region.

Winners from the regional MTDC Road2Growt­h programmes are eligible to enter the grand finale of the pitching competitio­n which will be held in October 2019.

The grand prize winner of each category will receive RM15,000 worth of product developmen­t grant.
