AirAsia cancels flights to Clark after earthquake hits Philippines

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has cancelled a number of flights to and from Clark, Philippines following the earthquake in the Pampanga Province.

The Clark International Airport was severely damaged in the 6.3 magnitude earthquake which hit the main island of Luzon yesterday afternoon.

AirAsia, in a statement, said that the flights between Monday and Tuesday (April 23) that were cancelled involved those from Clark International Airport to other cities, including domestic flights within the Philippines such as Cebu, Caticlan, Puerto Princesa, and Tacloban City, as well as international flights such as to Taipei and Seoul.

“AirAsia has notified all affected guests via email and SMS. Guests who are travelling to/from Clark on the above dates are encouraged to check their registered email and mobile for cancellation notifications,” it said yesterday.

AirAsia also informed its passengers that those affected by the cancelled flights can either change their travel date on the same route within 30 calendar days from the original flight, or obtain a full refund for the ticket.

“AirAsia is monitoring the situation in Clark and will continue to provide information on the latest developments.

“Guests who continue to travel are strongly advised to follow the instructions of our ground staff and airport authorities,” it added.

According to Rappler, at least seven people were injured at the Clark International Airport after part of the ceiling at the check-in lobby collapsed.

The Philippine news outlet also noted that the airport’s control tower and passenger terminal were damaged, prompting the suspension of operations.
