Explain sudden dismissal of STB GM — SAPP

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Tourism Datuk Christina Liew was urged to reveal the real reasons for the sudden and unexpected dismissal of the General Manager of Sabah Tourism Board earlier this month, said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) secretary-general Datuk Richard Yong We Kong.

“The General Manager, Suzaini Sabdin Ghani, who was removed without any advanced notice, is generally known to be very capable and has contributed a lot towards the growth of the Sabah tourism industry.

“For her to be removed at almost no notice, there must be an explanation.

After all, this new government has been talking about transparency and good governance,” Richard asserted in a statement yesterday.

“Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, in various newspapers has claimed total ignorance of the changes in the top management of STB, the biggest agency under her ministry.

“She also claimed that the decision to remove the General Manager was made by STB's board of directors.

“She said that the decision (to dismiss the GM and appoint a new GM) was conveyed to the Permanent Secretary. This is strange,” said Richard.

“The minister made it seem like she, the minister, operates in a vacuum, oblivious to all the happenings around her. Is this really the case?” he asked.

“The minister contradicted herself when she claimed that the dismissal of the General Manager is not political. How would she know the reasons, whether political or not, if she really does not know what happened?” he asked.
