Sabah employers discuss proposal to amend SLO
KOTA KINABALU: Several Sabah trade associations came together to hold a round-table meeting to deliberate on the proposed amendments to the Sabah Labour Ordinance (Chapter 67).
This meeting followed the Human Resources Ministry's (MOHR) plans to amend three acts, namely the Employment Act 1955, Minimum Standard of Housing and Amenities Act 1990, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, and for these amendments to be streamlined with the Labour Ordinance of Sabah and Sarawak, according to a statement issued here yesterday by the Sabah Employers Association.
In their deliberation held yesterday at Gaya Centre Hotel, Kota Kinabalu led by Sabah Employers Association president Yap Cheen Boon, the Sabah trade associations aimed for a more balanced or win-win labour policies for employers and employees.
All suggestions and input arising from this meeting will be submitted to the Sabah Labour director, and the Federal MOHR.
The participating associations were the Federation of Sabah Industries, Sabah Omnibus Operators Association, Sabah Timber Industries Association, Timber Association of Sabah, Persatuan Pengusaha Lori Kontena Kota Kinabalu, Federation of Malaysia Manufacturers (Sabah Representative Office), Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Sabah Branch), Malaysia Plastic Manufacturers Association (Sabah Branch), Malaysian Employers Federation, Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery and Building Materials Association, Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sabah United Fisheries and Fishing Boat Association, Sandakan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia (Sabah).
This round-table meeting is the precursor to the Sabah Labour Consultative Council, which will provide a platform for the state's employers to come together and jointly tackle issues, and moving forward will involve employee representatives to collaborate together for the betterment of the economy.
