-

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the four trustees of the “Rumah Penyayang Tun Abdul Razak” in Pekan, Pahang, told the High Court here yesterday that the welfare home received a cheque for RM400,000 in 2015 from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Abdul Munir Othman, 52, who is a director at Tanjung Semarak Sdn Bhd, said however, he could not remember whether the cheque was received at the Finance Ministry or the Prime Minister's Office.

“The cheque was made under the name of the Trustee of Rumah Penyayang Tun Abdul Razak," he said, adding that Najib was the patron of the home.

He said this in response to a question from the prosecution, conducted by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi, on the sixth day of Najib's trial for alleged misappropriation of SRC International Sdn Bhd fund.

Muhammad Saifuddin: Did you ask for the RM400,000 fund? Abdul Munir: I asked for it Muhammad Saifuddin: The fund was used for what purpose?

Abdul Munir: The fund was used to pay salary, buy food stuff and transportation of the children to school.

Cross-examined by lawyer Harvinderjit Singh, representing Najib, Abdul Munir said the fund was used for welfare purposes and not for personal interests.

Harvinderjit Singh: The fund was used for hostel expenses, buy clothing and food for the orphans, school books? Abdul Munir: Yes. Najib, 66, is facing three counts of criminal breach of trust, one charge of abusing his position and three counts of money laundering over SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM42 million.

The hearing before High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali continues.
