149 compounds for Keningau restaurants without waste oil traps

-

KENINGAU: The Keningau District Council (KDC) has issued 149 compounds against restaurants operators from January to April 23 for failing to install waste cooking oil traps which resulted in the pollution of the drainage system.

KDC executive officer Mumin Amsah said all the restaurant operators were compounded over the offence of not installing waste oil traps under the Anti Littering By-Law 2010 which provided a fine of RM30 to RM500.

“KDC has enforced compliance on the installation of oil waste traps at all food and drink premises in the district since five years ago, however, only 93 of the 163 premises have done so.

“Five years is ample time given to the premises to install the traps. The stubbornness of the restaurant operators in not complying with the directive has resulted in their premises’ surrounding emitting a foul smell other than the blocked drains,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Mumin said the council would not compromise with the restaurant operators who failed to comply with the law and would continue enforcement activities to protect public cleanliness and health.

At the recent Sabah State Assembly, deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, who is also Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister, made the installations of waste oil traps at food premises as a compulsory condition for renewal of licence.

As such, Mumin advised restaurant operators in Keningau to comply with the directive. - Bernama
