Tawau school computer lab project abandoned for years

-

TAWAU: An incomplete and abandoned computer laboratory of SM Kem Kabota, the cracked cement surface of the school’s activity centre and an inadequate stand at the school field were among the issues of concern brought up before the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Jimmy Wong, during his visit to the school recently.

Jimmy has expressed concern over the abandoned computer laboratory at SK Kem Kabota for over 13 years after the construction was left uncompleted by the contractor during the era of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

He said he was informed that the abandoned computer laboratory was not complete with the necessary amenities and building materials as specified in the contract despite the project having been paid in full.

The project contractor had reportedly handed over the key to the laboratory to the school despite its incomplete condition.

On the cracked cement surfaces of the school’s activity centre, Jimmy said, repair is needed to be done immediately as the broken concrete could pose a danger to students if they were to fall down accidentally.

The inadequate stand in the school field should also be expanded in view of the increase in students and teachers every year.

On the issues raised, Jimmy said, he will follow up to seek solutions with various channels and discuss it further with the Ministry of Education.

Jimmy reiterated the new government’s (Pakatan HarapanPH) initiative to combat corruption in order to restore the trust of the people in the government and hoped that it (corruption) will never happen again to burden the country.

Also present were the school principal Fatimah bt Hj Makhdirol, chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Mejar Syamsury bin Sutrisno, Sri Tanjong community development leader, Koo Hung Eow.
