Sharing programme provides info on media industry as career choice

-

SHAH ALAM: Programmes which allow members of the media to share their experiences with school children and teachers can help them make career choices.

Only through these sharing sessions will the students and teachers be exposed to the real aspects of the communications and media industry, said a teacher at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seksyen 3 Bandar Kinrara, Rosmani Abdul Rashid.

Speaking to Bernama after attending the ‘Teh Tarik with Masscomm: This Is Us 2019’ progamme organised by Semester Four students of the Faculty of Communications and Media, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Rembau for the subject Event Management in Communications yesterday, she said the input provided by two representatives of the media industry had benefited students who were interested to join the profession.

“I asked the students who participated in the programme yesterday, and they have started to show interest and understand the field of communications and media after listening to two members of the media industry.

“The input has also helped us teachers and made it easier for us to explain to the students after this,” she said, adding that industry players could help students make choices for tertiary education.

A teacher from SMK Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam, Badariah Baharuddin, echoed these opinions, saying that the programme would show the students that the media industry was not limited to individuals who only appear on television.

She said there were many more professions in the industry which students could join.

A student of SMK Seksyen 3 Bandar Kinrara, Nurul Izzati Ahmad Rizal, 17, said she was satisfied with the informationsharing session in the programme as it showed her that communications was a vital part of daily life.

“I was not interested in the field of communications and media before but with this programme, I understand it better. Maybe I will try it one day,” she said.

Head of the ‘Teh Tarik with Masscomm: This Is Us 2019’ programme, Jasmin Jeffry Mas said it was aimed at promoting the world of the media as well as the Faculty of Communications and Media, UiTM to schoolchildren.
