Fence to be erected on road divider

-

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Chan Foong Hin is allocating about RM200,000 from his MP Fund to build a fence on the road divider between Sutera Avenue and KK Times Square to prevent pedestrians from crossing the Coastal Highway haphazardly.

He said construction of the 650metre fence was expected to begin in the next three to four weeks and the project was slated for completion in October this year.

“We have completed the design for the fence and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has approved the project.

“The project will require the approval to proceed from the Implementation Coordination Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department which will take three weeks to a month.”

Chan said that after listening to the grievances from owners and tenants of The Residences, Sutera Avenue here yesterday.

Also present was Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (SATTA) president Datuk Seri Winston Liaw.

Chan hoped that the fence would reduce the frequent accidents involving pedestrians along the highway.

Meanwhile, Peter Wong, the spokesperson for the complainants, said the developer had promised to build an overhead pedestrian bridge linking Sutera Avenue to KK Times Square but that had yet to be realized.

On the other hand, Liaw hoped that the developer would expedite the construction of the overhead pedestrian bridge as it involved the company’s reputation.

“Sutera Avenue is the developer’s first project in Kota Kinabalu.

“I hope the developer will build the pedestrian bridge as soon as possible or else Sabahan investors may lose confidence in the company’s future projects here.”
