Post office becomes dumping site for unwanted decoders

-

KAPIT: The post office here has become a dumping ground of sorts for free decoders distributed by MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd.

A check at the tiny post office building found hundreds of boxes of decoders piled up and occupying every available space.

It is understood that eligible recipients have refused to claim the decoders.

“I claimed mine earlier. Sadly, it malfunctioned, it doesn’t work. I even bought the aerial, still I can’t receive the signal. It is just another waste of resources. Like others, my longhouse folk don’t even bother to collect them because they are meaningless,” complained a headman from Kaki Pelagus, Batang Rajang, who refused to be named.

The uncollected decoders, which have accumulated for the past few months, have also blocked post office boxes.

“Please highlight in the newspaper about the plight of the people here. We rent the post office box for the convenience of collecting letters or parcels. Now, for a few months, each time I opened the box, it is empty. Upon further enquiries I was told they can’t solve the letter or parcel problem because of the ‘dumping’ of MYTV decoders here and there, obstructing their movements,” complained a contractor, who only wanted to be known as Ah Lee.

“I am a contractor and developer. I have a lot of correspondence, but now what happened? Everything’s missing.”

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Eddie Syazlee Shith had told Parliament on Tuesday that 1.6 million of the total two million free decoders had been distributed to eligible recipients to date.

The recipients were selected from the Cost of Living Aid (BSH) list, particularly from lowest income B40 households.
