Azis attends Wira, Wanita, Wirawati meeting in wheelchair
PENAMPANG: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leader Datuk Azis Jamman showed true grit and loyalty when he showed up in a wheelchair to attend the joint opening of the Wira, Wanita and Wirawati movements here.
The Wira Chief, who was involved in a motorcycle accident about two weeks, ago attended the meeting in a wheelchair and was given a standing ovation by delegates when it was his turn to speak.
In his speech at the opening ceremony that was officiated by deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking, Azis said the injury he sustained in the accident was a minor test compared to what he went through during the time when Warisan was in the opposition.
“There is nothing that can stop me from being here today because this is a historical day for Warisan. During the 14th general election we fought for change in Sabah and proved the doubters wrong because we did it,” he said.
Azis told the Wira movement that they have a big responsibility to the people and state and must ensure that what was promised by the Government and the party during the election campaign would be fulfilled.
“We are not merely flag bearers, we have the responsibility to bring constructive criticism, not those that create disharmony among the people and party,” he stressed.
Azis stressed that Wira members must not be ‘Yes Men” and added, “don’t be auto pilot leaders. I wish to see the Wira as a movement that not only completes the party but also be one in the forefront that can give constructive critism to the government.
“I quote Khairy Jamaluddin who said his biggest regret was that he failed to reprove the then Prime Minister. We take what had happened to Umno as a lesson.
"In Warisan even if it seems like we are criticising the government but it if it is good for the rakyat, by all means,” he said.
When asked about his health, Azis said that he had undergone a second surgery for the leg injury sustained in the motorcycle accident.
“There is a bit of swelling but I am recovering well,” he said.
