TABS takes a break, resumes after Ramadan
KOTA KINABALU: The Football Basic Grassroots Programme or better known as TABS, will take a break throughout the fasting month of Ramadan.
Head coach of the Program Tunas Asas Bolasepak, Matasan Ahmad said the programme, which is under the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) Bandaraya branch, would resume its training schedule after the Aidilfitri festivities.
In this regard, registration for new members will reopen once the programme resumes.
The programme, which has been running for the past 37 years since 1982, is among the oldest in Sabah. Many ex-State players have their roots in the programme.
Around 300 registered members attend the training sessions scheduled weekly at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex Field A (behind the hostel).
Participants consist of all ages from 18 and below with the youngest group of eight and under.
They are taught everything about being a footballer, from basics and tactical training to technical aspects of team play.
Several coaches conduct the training sessions where each handles his own age group of participants.
“The programme is constantly open for new registrations. Parents can send their kids directly to the field to meet and register with any of our coaches and immediately join the training.
“But we are currently taking a break for one month. Those who wish to enroll their kids can do so one week after Aidilfitri,” Matasan said when met here yesterday.
