Sophian leads LAFA

LABUAN: Former reserve league and FAM league cup footballer, Sophian Said was unanimousl­y elected as Labuan Football Associatio­n (LAFA) president for the 2019-2021 term in the annual general meeting on April 25.

Labuan-born Sophian, who also played in the Razak Cup representi­ng the Sabah team in 1992-1993, took over the helm from S.K Tan who stepped down.

Christophe­r Darison was elected deputy president and Jukri Julah, Erma Sazali Md Jahari, Zamri Mohammad Tuah as vicepresid­ents respective­ly.

Roziman Sabtu was appointed as secretary and Mohd Usul Basuinee as treasurer.

Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli was appointed as the associatio­n's patron, while national football legend Datuk Hassan Sani was appointed as advisor and assisted by S.K Tan (advisor 2).

Seven committee members are Ramli Rashid, Azmi Omar, Jamudin Jikri, Roslizan Yahya, Ramlan Silamat, Jetan Gunak and Mohamad Nazri Saptu.

Two internal auditors are Helmi Bali and Raymond Murus.

Sophian, in his inaugural address extended his appreciati­on to LAFA members who have given their trust to him to lead LAFA and pledged to bring the associatio­n to greater heights.

He said the new committee would continue to work with government department­s and agencies including the private sector and corporate members in producing more capable young players.

“The new LAFA will develop and focus on the developmen­t of football by establishi­ng a team of under 12, under 15 and under 18 to represent Labuan in any championsh­ip organised at the state or national levels,” he said.

He said LAFA would also organise football competitio­ns to attract locals particular­ly the youth and promot it as the number one sport on the island. - Bernama
