CM congratulates Vivian

-

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Haji Apdal, on behalf of the Parti Warisan Sabah-led government, congratulated Vivian Wong Shir Yee on her resounding victory in the Sandakan by-election that was held yesterday.

“Had the voter turnout been higher, I am confident her majority would have been even greater.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the voters who cast their vote of confidence on Vivian. Sandakan voters have once again shown their undivided support for the Warisan-led government.

“This victory is a victory of the people as well as an endorsement of the Warisan-led government. The win is also a very clear indication that Umno no longer has any effect on the Muslim voters who this time around, have come out very strongly in support of the DAP candidate.

“I expect Vivian to continue her father’s legacy. The late Stephen Wong was a dedicated Member of Parliament and I am confident Vivian will be able to follow in his footsteps.

“We will continue to deliver our promises. Sandakan will definitely see better days ahead especially with the works on the airport extension project to start any day now, as well as the decision to turn POIC Sawit into a furniture hub. This will auger well for tourism and thousands of job opportunities,” said.

He added: “I will guide Vivian as she undertakes her responsibilities as a young politician and I assure Sandakan voters that I will be back as often as I can to ensure that development projects take off in order to revive the economy of this once timber-rich town”.

“Once again, I thank the voters who gave DAP and Vivian Wong a victory, as well as all leaders and members of Parti Warisan Sabah, DAP, PKR, Upko and Amanah who campaigned hard to ensure that Sandakan remains in DAP hands,” Shafie concluded.
